Q: How long have you been with SMB?
A: I will complete my 15th year with SMB this September.
Q: What does your job entail?
A: As a Billing Specialist, I enter claims in our billing system, submit claims to insurance, post payments on claims, and call on issues that come back until all lines are paid, and all appeals are resolved.
Q: What made you want to join SMB?
A: I was a stay-at-home mom for 12 years raising my 3 kids, but when my youngest started school, I was ready for a career. My husband coached our youngest son’s t-ball team and Glen’s son was also on the team. I found out about SMB through Glen and was immediately interested in this successful billing company. Fortunately, Glen gave me the opportunity to work here and it’s been a great fit for me.
Q: What’s the most exciting thing you are working on right now?
A: Two new accounts. One I have been working on for about a month and the other one will start very soon.
Q: What motivates you?
A: I really enjoy new accounts and have worked on many over the years. Getting a practice set up correctly, submitting to the correct insurances, making sure all claims are being submitted with the correct provider information, and ensuring that we have access to payments is very rewarding. I also love the comfort of working on three of my accounts I have had the entire 15 years I’ve been here. Building trust with an office over a period of time is also very rewarding.
Q: What’s one thing you learned in the last month (business or other)?
A: I learned that only one hour from my house, there is a farm that grows all kinds of produce that you can go and pick. I was so excited to go pick over 20 lbs of blackberries in July and can’t wait to go next year.
Q: What’s your superpower?
A: I am right-handed, but when I started working for SMB, I decided to use my left hand to operate the mouse, freeing my right hand for the number pad. After I had done it for a while, it seemed natural. This evenly distributes the effort in both hands.
Q: What is a fun fact that people may not know about you?
A: I love to cook homemade, from scratch dishes and my mom inspired me to do this by cooking every meal fresh from her garden. It is important to me to keep my mom’s traditional dishes at our family gatherings, and I follow her example of making things ahead and freezing them.
Q: What’s on your bucket list?
A: I would love to relearn to play my flute. I haven’t played since I was in middle school but remember enjoying it. I would also like to learn to embroider so I can give personalized gifts to my family and friends.
